Free AI Agent Directories: Fees, Backlinks and Review Rules
By Balwant Singh Rawat · Published · Updated · Research-based (not yet hands-on tested)
Last checked: 8 November 2026 (IST). We inspected the operators’ own public submission, pricing and methodology pages. No account signup, submission, payment or hands-on review was performed. Review windows below are operator claims, not measured turnaround times.
Quick answer: start with the seven operators below that explicitly describe free submission or basic listing, but qualify each for your actual product. We also show two exclusions and one unconfirmed route because older “free agent directory” lists can conceal fees, reciprocal links or missing terms.
How this list separates free from no backlink required
We checked 10 distinct websites, not ten spelling variations of the same service. In particular, theaiagentsdirectory.com, aiagentsdirectory.com and ai-agents-directory.com are different operators with different evidence.
- Free confirmed: the operator explicitly says a basic listing or submission is free. It does not promise approval.
- Requirement not stated: we did not find a mandatory on-your-site badge or reciprocal backlink on the cited page. This is weaker than an explicit “no backlink required” policy. Confirm any later form conditions before submitting.
- Excluded: a known payment or reciprocal-link requirement conflicts with this guide’s free/no-exchange selection.
- Unconfirmed: the public page does not disclose enough information. We do not fill that gap with competitor claims.
No authority score, traffic forecast, ranking benefit or dofollow claim is used to qualify these directories. A paid “Verified” badge on a directory profile is not necessarily a required badge on your own website. An outbound nofollow link from a listing is also different from a requirement for you to link back.
Seven free candidates, with eligibility and queues
Every source link below is the operator’s own page. Unless explicitly described otherwise, a mandatory reciprocal link or website badge was not stated on that checked page, rather than independently ruled out across a logged-in flow.
| Directory / primary source | Fee evidence | Badge or backlink condition | Eligible product and route | Queue evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AgentStackd | Listing explicitly free | No mandatory on-site badge/reciprocal link stated | AI agents or automation tools; direct form; manual selection; no account needed. Fallback email is listed if the form fails. | Human review; no deadline published on the checked page. |
| The AI Agents Directory | Listing free; payment never required for inclusion | No mandatory badge/reciprocal link stated | AI agents/tools; public vendor pages checked under its methodology. Submission does not guarantee listing. | No review deadline stated. |
| Agents.NET | No fees or revenue share; free listing | No mandatory badge/reciprocal link stated | Functional agents with accurate categories, readable English name and live secure landing page; not temporary tunnels, raw JSON/spec or file downloads. | Says 24–48 hours; also says entries passing automated safety/quality checks can be approved instantly. Not a universal instant-listing promise. |
| Add AI Directory | Free; no paid placements or sponsored positions | No mandatory badge/reciprocal link stated | Agents acting autonomously on users’ behalf; public official site and verifiable claims. Beta, documented waitlist or verifiable launch plans considered. Email template plus square logo. | Aims for initial response within 7 business days; complete review may take longer. |
| HyzenPro | Free if accepted; optional Verified/Featured plans | No mandatory website badge/reciprocal link stated. Optional profile badges are paid extras, not basic listing requirements. | Autonomous agents, acting copilots, multi-agent platforms, builders and frameworks; open-source/self-hosted welcome. Submit form with capabilities and hosting details. | Says most reviewed within 5 business days; private tracking key shows progress. |
| Directory of Agents | Basic listing “always free”; sponsorship optional | No mandatory badge/reciprocal link stated | Real, functioning agent, accurately described; manual review, pros/cons and category assignment. | No deadline stated; email sent when live. |
| AgentLocker | Free listing explicitly described | No mandatory badge/reciprocal link stated | AI tools including agents and automation; create a free account, add name, description, logo, screenshot, categories, pricing and website. | Says review is prompt but gives no numeric review deadline. “Under 5 minutes” describes filling in the form, not approval. |
These are candidates, not promises that every agent will qualify. A directory’s own “dofollow” wording is not a link-attribute audit. Check the rendered listing link after publication; never equate free inclusion with ranking-passing links.
Three routes to exclude or put on hold
8. ai-agents-directory.com: free tier needs a reciprocal link
Its pricing page shows $0 free submission, a nofollow link and 30+ days on the free-plan card. The FAQ content on the same official page says the free plan requires a backlink to its site. It also gives a conflicting 72-hour free review statement. We therefore record the queue as inconsistent, not a reliable deadline.
Eligibility is AI-agent products, described on its home page; the submission link leads to account sign-in. The pricing page displays a $9.90 basic plan with “no backlink required,” but we are not recommending that purchase. Excluded from our free, no-reciprocal campaign. Do not confuse its reciprocal link requirement with the outbound nofollow link a free listing receives.
9. AI Agents List: free eligibility check, paid accepted listing
The current official submission page lists $29 Lifetime Listing and $49 Launch Boost, one-time. It explicitly answers that only the eligibility check is free. Eligible products are working AI agents and agent-focused tools with a clear public website; generic agencies and inaccessible or unrelated sites may not qualify.
The advertised review windows are 48 hours for Lifetime Listing and 24 hours for Launch Boost. A profile Verified badge is included; no mandatory on-your-site backlink is stated on the checked page. Neither fact turns it into a free listing. Excluded from free-only submissions. We do not repeat its claims about SEO value or the quality of other free directories as independent facts.
10. aiagentsdirectory.com: submission page exists, terms unconfirmed
The official submit-agent page invites agentic solutions and global users, but the readable public page does not establish current listing fees, badge/backlink requirements, detailed qualification rules or queue time. A label such as “Free Agents” elsewhere can describe the products’ pricing, not the cost to submit them.
Hold: inspect the full live submission flow and terms before calling this a free or no-backlink route. We do not infer no-account access, followed links or approval timing from third-party directory reviews.
Submission checklist: show the work the agent actually does
Prepare one accurate brief, then adapt it to each operator’s fields:
- Define autonomous actions. Write the task, inputs, output and the point where a person must approve a consequential action. A chat window alone does not establish agent functionality.
- Use a real public destination. Provide the official product page and documentation; explain whether users need an account, paid plan, their own API keys or regional access. If it is an open-source agent, add the repository and self-hosting instructions.
- Make price claims checkable. Distinguish a permanent free product plan from a short trial or metered API costs. Free directory submission does not mean the agent itself is free to run.
- Prepare visual assets and limitations. Add the genuine logo, product screenshots and a useful demo. For Add AI Directory, the required square logo is at least 200 × 200 px; attach the file to the prepared email yourself.
- Protect private data. Never put API keys, passwords or customer records in form fields, screenshots or public descriptions. If a reviewer needs access, use the operator’s private channel and a dedicated low-permission test account.
- Confirm the last step. If the flow introduces payment, a required reciprocal badge or unclear terms, stop. Do not pay or add a link merely because an older list calls the directory free.
- Save evidence, not assumptions. Record receipt, submitted date, review status, eventual live URL and actual link attributes separately. Repeated duplicate submissions rarely clarify an editorial queue.
A no-backlink-required workflow without overclaiming
For a strict no-reciprocal launch, start with a free candidate whose audience fits your product. Re-read its full form before final submission; if no link exchange is required, save the terms and submit once. If a later step requires a badge or link, skip it and record the reason. “Not stated on the public page” is not a certification that the complete process needs no backlink.
Prioritize useful discovery rather than maximizing a count. For a developer framework, repository/docs quality may matter more than broad AI roundups. For a customer-facing agent, accurate integrations, pricing and a demo may help an editor evaluate it. We have not measured any candidate’s referral or sales performance.
When an MCP registry is the better route
If you built a protocol server rather than a stand-alone agent product, use our MCP Registry vs directory guide and submission checklist. Client connector review, technical metadata publishing and marketing listings are different jobs. Do not submit a manual agency or unrelated review site as if it were autonomous software.
For a wider product launch, read how to submit an AI tool to directories and the checked free AI/SaaS directory guide.
Disclosure and service scope: GearPicked sells a manual product/website directory submission service with screenshot evidence. These research checks do not mean every site here is included in either package, nor that GearPicked offers agent engineering, MCP Registry publishing or connector certification. Final targets depend on eligibility and free/no-badge conditions. Approval, links, indexing, rankings, traffic and sales are not guaranteed.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI agent directories have free submissions?
The checked first-party pages explicitly describe free listing or submission at AgentStackd, The AI Agents Directory, Agents.NET, Add AI Directory, HyzenPro, Directory of Agents and AgentLocker. Approval is still conditional. Recheck the complete submission terms before proceeding.
Are these AI agent directories guaranteed to require no backlink?
No. The seven free candidates did not state a mandatory badge or reciprocal link on the pages checked, but an unstated requirement is not proof it cannot appear later. The separate ai-agents-directory.com explicitly requires a backlink for its free plan and is excluded from our no-reciprocal shortlist.
How long does a free AI agent directory review take?
Operator claims differ: Agents.NET says 24–48 hours with instant approval for some safety-checked entries; HyzenPro says most reviews take five business days; Add AI Directory aims for an initial response within seven business days, not completed publication. Several other operators give no deadline.
Is AI Agents List still free?
Not for an accepted listing when checked on 8 November 2026. Its eligibility check is free, but its submission page lists one-time accepted-listing packages of $29 and $49. A free screening step is not a free listing.
Can I submit an agency or an MCP server as an AI agent?
Only where that directory's eligibility permits it. Describe a real agent's independent actions, user controls and access requirements. A manual agency is not an AI agent, and an MCP server may belong in a technical registry instead of a product directory.
